A welcome break from an Alaskan winter

Needless to say, Hawaii is everything it is cracked up to be...especially when traveling there from Alaska in December. Our time in the tropics started out with an adventure in a Westfalia camper van. Paul Elsa and I loaded up from the airport and set off for Maui's east side. After a long and winding trip down the Hana Highway we set up camp off a beautiful black sand beach where we got our first taste of the warm Hawaiian waters. After a few days of "roughing it" we headed towards the west side where we had a lovely beach-side condo waiting for us. We all took to beach life quiet easily, spending our days in the sun and sand. Elsa couldn't get enough of the water, and thought it hysterical when she was pummeled by the waves. We are all having a hard time adjusting to sub-freezing temperatures and record braking snows, and are currently scheming on how we can make this little trip an annual tradition.

Elsa all packed up and ready to go!
